Father's Day Gift Dilemma Leads to Technology Lesson

Yesterday afternoon, I had to show properties for a few hours, and my wife kindly took the opportunity to take our four kiddos shopping for a Father's Day gift. Her destination was Fry's Electronics. If you're not familiar with Fry's (I have no idea if they are nationwide), it's basically a giant warehouse with every gadget, game, and TV that you can imagine. They sell phones, and speakers, and computers, books, CD's, cables, you name it.

It's one of my very favorite stores. Frankly, it's...

Burglary (n.): "the felony of breaking into and entering the house of another at night with intent to steal, extended by statute to cover the breaking into and entering of any of various buildings, by night or day." According to the dictionary, people have been getting burgled since 1150 A.D. Or at least, they've been talking about it since then. So it's no surprise that a common question when looking into moving cities is how likely is it? In 2012, there were 7,244 burglaries within the Austin...

I lost two more friends to cancer recently. One of them was a hilarious girl I knew in college. She was 42 years old, and she had a phenomenally good attitude about her illness. The other was a friend I made originally on Twitter, then through a number of phone calls. She was also a guest on my radio show, and she wanted me to go into business with her at one point. She was funny, creative, and interesting. She was 59.

One of the downfalls to knowing and caring about a lot of people is the fact...

Home security systems can be as sophisticated or as expensive as you want them to be, but how can you safeguard your property if you are on a budget? Good news-there are a whole host of cost effective methods that can keep burglars at bay. Here are 5 of your best options.   1. External Motion-Activated Lights A recent survey has shown that the majority of burglars acknowledge the value of deterrent devices, so don't underestimate the value of this type of protection. An external motional ligh...

Last September, during my involvement with Restore a Voice, my wife and I met and befriended Jes Richardson, which ended up making a huge impact on us both. Jes is a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, sex trafficking and unimaginable grief from the loss of her parents, family, and many friends throughout her lifetime. Jes' father was murdered when she was just 10 years old, and she was was lured into the sex industry while working as a waitress at age 17. She shared many stories with us of hor...

We had an interesting exchange with one of our clients today that I wanted to share here, partially because it's somewhat instructional and partly because it made me laugh.

We wrote offers yesterday for two duplexes for a cash buyer (investor) who is a past client of ours. Today, one of them was accepted, and we're waiting to hear about the other one.

The listing agent offered to pick up the paperwork from our client, since he lives nearby. He also said that he could pick up the earnest mone...
