So, Why IS Everyone Moving to Austin?

Austin's booming real estate market has been in the news a lot lately, and Austin Growththere is ample evidence that the city itself is growing by leaps and bounds, but why? What siren song is leading people to abandon their home states and move to the Capital of the Lone Star State?

According to a recent article in CNN Money, the answer is a combination of job growth, high pay, and ample housing development, unencumbered by excessive regulation. Austin has a higher median income than most states, and housing prices are lower than in many other states. (While the CNN Money article states the median home prices are higher in Texas than the US average, US Census data says otherwise.

Job growth in Austin, and Texas as a whole, is higher than any other state, with the fastest growing industries being technology and oil. Toyota just made a move to Plano bringing with it 3,000 new jobs, and HID Global (an identification and security corporation) just moved its global headquarters to Austin. In addition, Apple is expanding their Austin presence with a new campus and more job openings. Governor Rick Perry and other Texas politicians have been lately in the news for courting several corporations to move to Texas from out of state.
