Our Date Night at the Round Rock Tokyo Steak House

My wife and I have been blessed lately to have a built-in babysitter of sorts.  My mother-in-law lives with us and she has a helper who comes for about 30 hours per week.  The kids love her, so she often stays late, enabling us to have a "date night".

Wednesday night, we made our first outing to the Round Rock location of Tokyo Steak House & Sushi Bar.  We usually have the kids with us when we go out to eat, and the thought of having teppanyaki cuisine (grilled in front of you) and an active two-year old girl just don't mix well in my mind.

I have always been a fan of Japanese food, ever since our honeymoon, which I think was my first experience with teppanyaki.  Somehow, the food seems to taste better and it seems more fresh when you watch it being prepared.

We were seated by ourselves at first, then two other couples joined us at the trademark U-shaped bar surrounding the large grill.  The decor was very tasteful and rich, with great lighting.

I ordered the sirloin and chicken, and my wife had the salmon.  All of the dishes came with a light soup, shrimp appetizer, your choice of rice (I think the fried rice was $2 extra), mixed vegetables, and a small ice cream dessert.

Everything was delicious, and I didn't feel overly full or wanting for more.  We didn't try the sushi during this visit, but I would imagine that everything is meticulously prepared, based on our visit.

Our chef was talented, as they usually are, and my wife commented that it was like watching a "little food circus".  Eggs were rolling around, stuff was getting flipped in the air, there was a VERY large flame at one point, and he made a cool onion volcano with steam pouring out of the top.

For our budget, this will likely be a special-occasion restaurant, although it wasn't really that expensive.  Mine was around $22, and I think my wife's was $17.  Our total tab was about $47 pre-tip.  I would highly recommend this restaurant if you are a Round Rock resident, or if you are just in town visiting.  They are located behind the Red Lobster and Logan's in the La Frontera Shopping Center.
