Have you "blipped" yet? One of my favorite music sites
I have to admit that one of my favorite sites is www.blip.fm, which I discovered through some of my friends on Twitter. I think some see it simply as a tremendously wasteful use of time, but it is also another way to connect with friends and others who find me there.
At first glance, it seems confusing, which is the pattern for many other social networking sites out there, such as Twitter and Facebook. In fact, I have yet to meet anyone who visits Twitter and "gets it" immediately. In fact, I felt that way when I first started here on AR.
So, what the heck is it?
In essence, Blip.fm is a site that allows you to play DJ by searching for songs that you like and "blipping" them. They will appear there in the stream along with the songs that others have chosen, and you can choose your own favorite DJ's and specifically listen to them if you prefer.
In my case, whenever I play a song there, I have it set up to blip directly to Twitter and Facebook simultaneously.
Here are a few examples of recent songs that I blipped, if you are interested in seeing how the site looks:
Sliding into the DJ booth is VERY quick and easy on Blip. It takes a couple of minutes to set up a profile there.
If you are on Twitter and/or Facebook or Livejournal and you're interested in sending songs directly to those sites, the folks at Blip made things super-simple for you:
- Click on Settings (button on the top right)
- Click on the Services tab.
- Input your info for each site.
I have about 150 "listeners" there at this point, so please feel free to ask questions should you decide to check it out. If there is sufficient interest, I will write a tutorial explaining all of the various functions there.
