Marathon Kids Kicks Off in Austin Tomorrow!

I have written before about Marathon Kids, which is a kids' fitness incentive program that my son (and by extension, my wife and I) participated in this past year.  The second annual Crouch household participation has already begun, but the official kickoff event is tomorrow morning at 9am for the Austin school district, then at 11am for non-AISD kids, including private schools and homeschools.  They are wise to schedule it this way, since homeschoolers (including our family) are notorious night owls and like to sleep a little later.

Here are the details about tomorrow's event:

Last year, my son finished with flying colors, and this year we have already done about a mile toward his personal marathon.  Since my wife is pregnant, the running this year will fall on my shoulders, unless she is feeling energetic.  Well, I am allowed to dream, right?

Here is the post I wrote about our experience when we were in the midst of Marathon Kids this past fall:

Bragging on My Son and A Dance Party, too! Can it Get any Better?

I look forward to getting started again this time around, and we also continue to work out with the Wii Fit, although not with the frequency that I would like.

If you would like more information about getting your own kid(s) involved in Marathon Kids, you can really start whenever you like.  Here's their main website: http://www.marathonkids.org/.  The "final mile" celebration is in the spring, and last year it was a lot of fun.  Since there's a big crowd in attendance, the kids feel like rock stars.  Well, perhaps Olympic athletes would be a better comparison.  I credit this program with instilling in my son a real appreciation for the value of regular exercise.  It doesn't hurt Dad either!
