Lake Pflugerville is Getting a New Park and Pavillion

By the summer of 2009, Lake Pflugerville is set to receive a number of improvements, to the tune of $800,000.  Included in the project will be a park on the north shore, gravel beach, pavilion, two covered and lighted picnic tables, a boat ramp, boat rentals and additional parking.

Yes, that is an actual picture of the lake to the right.

Thankfully for those of us who pay taxes in this area, this money will not be coming from the city itself.  Instead, the funds will come from a number of sources, including the LCRA (Lower Colorado River Authority), the Pflugerville Community Development Corporation, and local developers.

Lake Pflugerville is about five minutes from my house.  We actually spent this past Fourth of July there as a family, enjoying the huge and impressive fireworks show, which was billed as the "Pflugerville Pfireworks Pfestival".  You can read my post about our special day here:

We Had an Awesome Evening for the Fourth! We even got paid to enjoy it!

The lake is still fairly new, having been created in March 2006 as a water source for the city, so the new improvements are truly improvements, rather than necessities at this point.

I look forward to enjoying more time at the 180-acre lake.  Who knows?  Maybe I will even re-learn how to fish (I haven't gone since I was a kid).  I know that they have stocked the lake with TONS of fish, according to what I have read and heard over the past couple of years.

There is also a crushed granite trail which runs around the perimeter for 3 miles.  I need to make better use of this nearby amenity when the weather cools off around here.

Thanks for reading this brief update.  I first noticed this story in the Community Impact newspaper, which is a terrific source of local information.
