How I got over $1 million worth of referral business from ActiveRain this week!

I was contacted a couple of days ago by an agent who works with Re/Max Allegiance in the Arlington, Virginia area.  He had emailed the other agents within his brokerage asking if anyone knew a good agent in the Austin, Texas area, and TWO of them gave him my name that day, which was both flattering and potentially lucrative for me.

Brian Block and Cindy Jones were both kind enough to give out my name, and the agent contacted me so that we could chat about the referral.  It turns out that he had a bad experience with another agent here in town who was unresponsive, so he needed to find a replacement agent in Austin relatively quickly.

The buyer has a condo that he is selling in Virginia, then he is moving here.  His girlfriend has a home near downtown Austin that is worth at least $425,000, and they are looking to buy a home near Lake Travis for about $625,000 or so.  In fact, the agent indicated that they have already found a home that they like in that range.  If things go well, this one client will result in just over $1 million in sales for me!

So, I wanted to publicly thank both Brian and Cindy for taking the time to give out my name.  I have already signed and returned the referral agreement, so we're really just waiting on the condo to sell in Virginia at this point.

I look forward to helping these particular buyers, as they sound like fun, hip people to deal with.  It's nice to have confirmation that the time I spend on ActiveRain blogging is actually paying off from time to time.

Another big point that I would like to make with this post is the importance of making your name as synonymous as possible with your geographic area of expertise.  In my case, I like to think that if anyone here has an Austin-area referral, my name will cross their mind.  If you can manage to do the same thing in your own area, you will eventually begin to reap the rewards.  I am fortunate that Austin makes the national news with some regularity on various lists, and we have a healthy number of relocating buyers.

I have been blessed to receive a good number of referrals and direct contacts from consumers, and I have really made ActiveRain a big part of my business plan going forward.
