Austin Texas Restaurant Review - Manny Hattan's New York Deli - Worst Service in town?

I debated over whether or not to write this post, but then I figured I could save others some grief.  Manny Hattan's New York Deli in Austin is one of two restaurants that I will no longer frequent based on THREE bad experiences that I had while eating there (one was more just funny, the others were upsetting).  I will probably write about the other one at some point soon.

About four years ago, I sold a home to some clients who live part of the year in Long Island.  They were anxious to try Manny Hattan's since it was billed as an authentic New York deli experience.  My client laughingly made the remark, "Wow, I guess they really are trying to make it authentic, complete with the rude servers."  I have never been to New York, so I certainly cannot judge this, but it was funny that he said it, since the servers were abrupt and not very pleasant.  The food was good and filling, but it was a little pricey.

Perhaps two years ago, I took my family to Manny Hattan's for dinner, since we had a coupon and it sounded good at the time.  I ended up arguing with the manager about what the coupon would or would not cover, as it was clearly spelled out in writing on the coupon.  Suffice it to say that it was very poorly handled.  I used to be in restaurant management, and I cannot even imagine acting the way that this guy acted toward us as paying customers.

Months later, we made an (ill-advised) trip back to this restaurant, and it honestly bothers me to this day, which is why we have never again returned, nor will we.  This particular visit was one that I will always remember as the first time that I ever cussed in front of my children (there are two total).  Yes, I was that upset.  I won't bore you with details, but I will say that it was another dispute about the amount that we were being charged, when we had to return some of the food.  Again, our server was exceptionally rude, then he offered to let me speak with the manager (same guy that I had argued with previously).  That did not help matters.

If you know me at all, you will be surprised to hear that I made a minor scene in Manny Hattan's that day, and while I was probably justified in my indignation, I was not proud of my actions.  I would not be embarrassed to eat there again, but I will not support this business.  I certainly have had plenty of opportunities to eat there with friends, clients, and others, but I can't bring myself to ever part with another dime of my money in that establishment.
