Active Rain is the real deal and I have the check to prove it! What a day!

I had written a previous post about my first contract from an Active Rain lead that I received back in September, and today WE CLOSED!  My clients were incredibly nice and easy to work with, and the closing went smoothly.  They are both so excited about getting into their new home.  They only looked at two houses before deciding on the one that they purchased.  The closing took quite a bit longer than usual because the sellers were waiting for their new home to be completed.

Needless to say, my wife was also happy that my mad blogging is starting to pay actual cash dividends.  I have three more buyers coming to town soon, all of which found me via Active Rain or were referred by friends of mine here at AR.  Since I consider this terrific network to be a part of my business plan going forward, this is great news indeed.

So, everything went smoothly, papers were notarized, and we left the conference room.  We were all smiles.

But it gets EVEN BETTER....

As we were exiting the room, I saw two different friends of mine from the Round Rock Keller Williams office.  After shaking hands with each of them, one of them (David Durham - also a member here at AR) said, "You have been doing some great things with your blog."  He mentioned the use of photos and images, and hinted that he would like to learn more about this.  I offered to speak with him and/or his assistant and help in any way I could.

I ran out to see my clients off, then I came back in to chat with David and his assistant.  As we were walking back to his office, I told him that last night I became the #1 agent in Austin on Active Rain.  He asked me about points, and I told him that I have about 96,000.  He said, "Wow!  That's great.  You are a pretty good writer."  David, if you are reading this, I realize this may not be a verbatim quote, but I wanted to share the sentiment of our brief conversation.

WOW!  Who knew that other local agents were reading my blog?  I was excited and extremely flattered to hear this.   It made me feel like a minor celebrity for a few minutes.  Needless to say, this was also cool for my clients to overhear that another agent also reads my stuff.  What an incredible (and natural) plug, both for me and for my blog!

I spoke with David and showed him a few basic things with regard to the images, then he and I both had to go.  I later had lunch with one of the agents who works with me, Alan Kirkpatrick (stop by and say "Hi" to him sometime), then I picked up my commission check and my clients' keys to their new home.  Overall, this was a day of several milestones for me personally:

  • Moving to the #1 spot in Austin on Active Rain
  • Closing my first Active Rain sale
  • Being publicly recognized by a local agent for the first time for my blog and writing skills

Days in real estate don't get much better than this one was for me!  Thanks to Active Rain, and to all of my friends and subscribers!
