FAMILY REUNION - Weekly Summary for Active Rain "Family Ties" Group - 11/23/07

As most of you may already be aware,  I co-founded a group called Family Ties back in September, along with my friend Adam Waldman.  This group is currently moderated by me, Adam, and Paul Slaybaugh.  This is the sixth weekly recap for the group.

The group was started about nine weeks ago, and we continue to grow at a nice clip!  We went from 122 to 133 members this week  and from 482 to 550 posts.  We are currently the 9th most active group on Active Rain!  Thanks to all members for helping make that happen!

Welcome to all new group members.  Thanks so much for your participation.

There were many, many posts about Thanksgiving and what members are thankful for this year.  I thought of including a selection of these types of articles, but then I was worried that I would leave someone out, so I chose not to go that direction.  However, I wish all of you a very happy and safe holiday weekend!

Here is a selection of my some of my favorite posts to appear within the group over the past week or so, including one of my own this week:

My Angel, My Mom, My Gift From God...Wisdom from the One Who Raised Me
 by Julie Neerings

Julie's tribute post to her mother was among the best that I have seen.  After reading the post, make sure you check out the comments, too.  Her mom showed up with some words of her own for Julie.

There's Popcorn in My Bed....Again!  by Joddie Roberts

As a mother of eight, Joddie brings a unique perspective to our group, and this post helps to bring sharp focus to our priorities as parents.  Must read!

*100,000 Points Milestone* She Did Me Proud- "She Is My Hero" Says The Nurse!  by Katerina Gasset

Katerina tells the story of the birth of her first grandchild.  Good stuff!

Building a home or building equity?  by Andrew Trevino

Andrew discusses remodeling his home and shares his thoughts on the importance of making a house into a home, as previous generations did.  This is an interesting read, which has become the norm for Andrew, in my opinion.

A Season To Remember by Adam Waldman

Adam managed to include two of my favorite topics, fatherhood and football, which virtually guaranteed his inclusion in this week's recap post.  This post focuses on his experiences as a coach for his 5-year old son's football team.

Zero tolerance has to stop!  by Todd Clark

As a fellow homeschooler, Todd shares many of the same views that I do about our public school system.  This is a "rant" on zero tolerance, and it includes a couple of true stories that left me amazed.

Yep, my hand was caught in the cookie jar  by John MacArthur

John's clever post about how this business can often shift our priorities includes an honest portrayal of how things work when we try to take some much-needed time off.

Sharing My Home and My Time During the Holidays by Jason Crouch

In this post, I wanted to share how rewarding it has been for our family to include friends who have no other place to spend the holidays.  I don't want to seem self-serving by including it, but I thought the message was a solid one.

If you haven't joined or even visited the group yet, here is the description that I wrote there to give you some idea of what we are all about:

First question: Is this a fan club for the 80's sitcom? No. I just wanted to think of something memorable for this group. This is meant to be a fun place to escape the daily drama of the real estate industry. Please feel free to post any family stories or lessons here. We envision this as a great place to share funny stories about kids, marriage, siblings, parenting, or anything family-related. Posts may relate business to family life, or they may be about striking a healthy balance between career and life. Welcome to Family Ties!

So come on over and check it out!  We're like one big happy family in this great group!  If you aren't visiting this group, I can assure you are missing out on some terrific writing.  I look forward to seeing you there.  Let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks!
