FAMILY REUNION - Weekly Summary for Active Rain "Family Ties" Group - 11/16/07

As many of you may already be aware,  I co-founded a group called Family Ties in September, along with my friend Adam Waldman.  This group is currently moderated by me, Adam, and Paul Slaybaugh.  This is the fifth weekly recap for the group.

The group was started about eight weeks ago, and we have been growing like crazy!  We went from 106 to 122 members this week  and from 411 to 482 posts.  We are currently the 11th most active group on Active Rain.

Welcome to all new group members.  Thanks so much for your participation.

Here is a selection of my favorite posts to appear within the group over the past week or so:

The Dark Side Of Family!  by Adam Waldman

In this introspective post, Adam explores the disgraceful behavior of a group of adult children who are responsible for helping their elderly mother in a time of need.

I am Brave by Jennifer Bukaty

Jennifer's post about a helpful younger cousin who lent support when she was only seven was beautifully written.  The photo alone is worth seeing this one.

Giving Thanks by Paul Slaybaugh

With Thanksgiving nearing, Paul takes a minute to give sincere thanks for what he has been given, along with some very special thanks for clients who have made his real estate career interesting over the years.

This week brought a LOT of good mom and dad tribute posts, some in conjunction with the "Wisdom From" contest.  Here are my favorites (you might want to have some tissues nearby):

Judge or Not to Judge - Thank You Mom For Your Wisdom by Candace Robinson

Candace delves deep here to discuss her mother and their relationship.  This is a great reminder to all of us to let our families and friends know of our feelings before it's too late.

Mama Mia Taught Me Eternal Wisdom, Jezu Przynosic Nasz Duha Do Nieba by Grace Safrin

Grace discusses her mother's tragic death in 1997, and the subsequent letter that she received from a total stranger.  Don't miss both of her posts on this.  Here's the other one:  Letter From An Angel - A Stranger who heard my cries to God !

My Mom - The never told story by Faina Sechzer

Faina crafted a lovely tribute to her late mother.  This also contains some great reminders about showing your love for your loved ones while they are still here with us.

My Father's Secret Life by Elaine Hanson

This is a terrific Veteran's Day tribute to Elaine's father, who served in the Air Force in WWII.  She discusses the life her father had before he was a father at all.  Interesting reading!

If you haven't joined or even visited the group yet, here is the description that I wrote there to give you some idea of what we are all about:

First question: Is this a fan club for the 80's sitcom? No. I just wanted to think of something memorable for this group. This is meant to be a fun place to escape the daily drama of the real estate industry. Please feel free to post any family stories or lessons here. We envision this as a great place to share funny stories about kids, marriage, siblings, parenting, or anything family-related. Posts may relate business to family life, or they may be about striking a healthy balance between career and life. Welcome to Family Ties!

So come on over and check it out!  We're like one big happy family in this great group!  If you aren't visiting this group, I can assure you are missing out on some terrific writing.  I look forward to seeing you there.  Let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks!
