Austin Real Estate - Forbes' List of 100 Fastest Growing Suburbs

Recently, Forbes Magazine released its list of the 100 Fastest Growing Suburbs in the U.S., and Texas has 20 of them.  Austin managed to garner THREE spots of its own in the top 50, all of which are located on the north side of town.

Pflugerville, where I have lived for twelve years, placed at #23 on the list, with an impressive 70.5% growth from 2000-2006.  It has grown from about 17,500 to almost 30,000 people.  We like this community because it is quiet, safe, and very affordable.  There is a lot of "bang for the buck" to be had here, and with the advent of the new toll road system last year, we are now located about 15 minutes from several major shopping destinations.  Additionally, the commute time to downtown Austin was cut in half.

Cedar Park was 11th, and Round Rock (home of the headquarters for Dell Computers) placed 49th.  Round Rock grew a LOT during the 90's, otherwise it probably would have placed higher on the list.

I have lived in the Austin area since 1988, when I moved here to go to Southwestern University in Georgetown, which is about 30 minutes north of Austin.  I remember when Round Rock was barely a blip on the radar on the way to Sixth Street.  In fact, there was a time that the main landmark in Round Rock (at least in my memory) was the Hardee's restaurant, because it was open a bit later than the places in Georgetown.  Now, the Hardee's is gone, but the area has developed so much that it would be utterly unrecognizable to the "1988 Jason".

When Dell chose to place its headquarters in Round Rock, the growth naturally followed.  The land where the Dell campus sits used to be surrounded by open fields.  Now, there is a very large and somewhat dense area of shopping and restaurants to cater to Dell employees and to Round Rock's residents.  Also, the real estate near Dell was dramatically affected, with upscale developments popping up in every direction in town.

If you are considering a move to the Austin area or if you are looking to find a solid real estate investment, I would be happy to provide more information on the available homes in and around Austin.
