Took a quick blogging break for a good reason
Yesterday was the first day of 2011 that I didn't write a blog post. My youngest daughter, Jenny, had to go to the emergency room at our pediatrician's suggestion. My wife, Pam, had to spend roughly 9 hours there with her. Jenny has rotavirus, which is an extremely rough stomach virus that lasts 3-9 days. In our case, our two older daughters had it as well, when they were little. In all three cases, it has required an IV at the hospital to replenish their fluids so that they don't get horribly dehydrated.
This bout started Sunday evening, and we thought it was probably a "normal" stomach bug. When day two began, we figured it was worse, because of her lethargy and the onset of fever.
Today, Jenny seems to be somewhat better, although she's still pretty grumpy, and not her usual happy self.
I wanted to share a couple of funny things that happened with her over the past day or so.
When Pam was pulling into our driveway last night, Jenny knew she was finally home. She said simply, "Abby", which is the name of her four-year-old sister, whom she adores. This was one of the few things she had said in many hours.
We woke up late this morning, since our power was out and we didn't get to sleep until close to 3am. I was thinking about how cold it was in our bedroom (turned out to be 56 degrees in there since we had no heat!). Jenny woke up and the first word out of her mouth was.... "pizza". Needless to say, if she was hungry for real food, we were going to have pizza.
Today has had more than its share of challenges, including the fact that we have no hot water. Our tankless water heater is mounted outside, and apparently one of the lines has ice inside it. We called many plumbers, but none could come today. I'm hoping that we can take an actual shower tomorrow, since the weather is predicted to be very cold through Friday.
Thankfully, I did manage to pick up a new listing today, which was a referral from a good friend and ActiveRain member. I hope tomorrow is an easier day. :)
