Georgetown PCA Church - Update on ChristChurch

I have had a few people asking about the progress for our new church in Georgetown, so I thought I should provide a quick update.

We have grown a little bit (I think we have about 15 core families now), even though we are still just in the planning stages.  Our first Sunday morning service will be Easter Sunday (April 12th) at Tippett Middle School.  For now, we continue to meet in the space next to the Run-Tex store just south of the town square at 809 S. Main Street in Georgetown from 6-8pm Sunday evenings.christchurch pca georgetown

We met last night and began discussing some of the key areas that need to be addressed in order to get things started on the right foot.  Whit (pastor) asked me to lead the Connection ministry, which basically is supposed to help visitors to feel more plugged in.  This is the purpose statement that we drafted as a group:

"To promote among members and guests meaningful relationships and involvement that extend beyond Sunday morning."

I'm excited about the chance to lead in this area.

Last night was also a banner occasion, since it was the first time that we managed to use EVERY chair that we had brought!

One of the families that has started to attend had a very clear indication that ChristChurch was the place for them, and I love the story behind this.  I have known the wife for a few years, and I had recently invited them to attend since they live in Georgetown and didn't already have a church home.  I also showed them homes a couple of months ago, but they had put things on hold until June or so.

Apparently, he has been studying theology for several years and determined that he wanted to attend a PCA (Presbyterian Church in America) church, because of our Reformed theology.  (If you don't know what Reformed theology is, this might help:http://www.reformedreader.org/t.u.l.i.p.htm)

At any rate, he visited a church WAY across town (maybe close to an hour from his home in Georgetown), and they recommended our new church as a possibility.  He contacted Whit who sent him an email newsletter with an update about the church.  This is where the story gets cool...

His wife (my friend) needed to use the computer as he was looking at the email from my pastor.  He got up, and she sat down, ready to work.  Rather than going immediately to her work, she scrolled down and saw a picture of me and my wife, because I had won the "most enthusiastic" prize from the photo of our recent white elephant gift exchange, with my somewhat manic/happy look of joy at receiving an authentic shark tooth necklace.

In my opinion, this was God speaking clearly to them that they were supposed to be a part of our church!  Thank you to all of you who have been praying for this new home/mission.  I really appreciate it.

UPDATE: OUR NAME HAS NOW CHANGED!  We are now Christ Presbyterian Church.  For more information about CPC, visit http://cpcgeorgetown.org.
