My Guilty Music Pleasures Contest - Announcement of Winners!!

Wow!  Who could have imagined some of the dark musical secrets hiding amongst the members of Active Rain?  Our December song contest for the "Inspired by Song!" group was "My Guilty Music Pleasures".  I must admit that my post was a cathartic experience, and I will proudly stand beside the music that I chose, embarrassing though it may be.  Paul, Adam, and I had a difficult time choosing winners in this contest, since so many of the entries seemed to embrace the challenge in this case

There were about 35 "official" entries, and a number of others that had missing tags or different titles, but they will still receive the bonus points assuming we can find them all.  This was a far better turnout than any of us expected.  One of the things I learned about myself in this process is that I like many songs considered "guilty".

So, without further ado, here are the winners of the December song contest:

Jen Romiti - 1st Place - 1000 bonus points

This entry really stood out for us.  With references to big butts, shuttlecocks, getting physical, and one mystery artist that I won't mention here, Jen took this month's contest to a mortifying new level in our opinion.  Her post is an absolute must read if you want to laugh.  Although she is still a relative newbie to Active Rain, Jen has hit her stride quickly.

Steel yourself, take a deep breath, then read Jen's winning post!

Danny Thornton - TIE 2nd Place - 750 bonus points

I jokingly told Danny after reading his entry that we could no longer be friends.  Take a look at the final video there and you will see why I had no choice.  He truly embraced the spirit of the contest with his inclusion of a boy band that I haven't actually heard of before this contest.  Great job!

Elaine Hanson - TIE -2nd Place - 750 bonus points

One of my favorite lines in this post was, "The only instruments I play are the radio and the CD player."  I can totally relate to this feeling.  Elaine's love for a popular early 1970's TV show made me feel vicariously guilty.

C'mon get happy and read Elaines' entry!

Harold Watts - TIE - 3rd Place - 500 bonus points

Note to future contestants: referring to us as "Active Rain gods" and "puppetmasters" may win you some ego points with the judges.  But seriously, this post contains a hilarious (and physically painful) story that is quite memorable.  Harold also claims to be free of our puppet strings (for now).

Check out Harold's liberating post here.

Kathleen Vetrano - TIE 3rd Place - 500 bonus points

This ode to the disco era had me singing along with the tunes.  Later, however, I was unable to get these songs out of my head (Curses!).  Although it was slightly less embarrassing when compared to some of the others, this well-written post was enjoyable from start to finish.

Boogie on over to check out Kathleen's entry!

Since I am all about the recaps, here are the judges' posts on this topic, one more time:

Paul Slaybaugh

Paul's taste in music is probably not as embarrassing as my own, and he needed some persuading from the other judges to include some of the music seen here.  Paul put it on the line with his choices here.  He also included one of the worst (and longest) videos in boy band history.

Here's the post that almost ended Paul's happy marriage.

Adam Waldman

Adam's post is like the wind through my tree.  Don't be "careless" and miss this one.  You may never look at Adam the same way again.  I know I don't.  But seriously, there are some cheesy songs to enjoy.

Jason Crouch

My post made me undergo a mid-life crisis of identity as I was composing it.  It was a revelation that I am still having nightmares about.  Who am I kidding?  Air Supply rules!

Here is my heart and soul laid open for your scrutiny and scorn.

If you wrote a post for this contest, and didn't place this time, you have not escaped addtional exposure.

Here are the other entries (200 bonus points each), in no particular order.  Please don't read anything into this.  I was simply too lazy to sort them.  Please drop by and insult the authors whenever you have a chance.  I know that they will appreciate the public flogging.  You can simply click on the name to go straight to the post:
