New Active Rain Group - "Family Ties" - Come Check it Out!

Well, after several weeks of thinking about it and discussing it with my good friend Adam Waldman, I started an Active Rain group yesterday called "Family Ties".  This group is intended to provide a respite from daily real estate drama, and it will serve as an avenue for family-related stories, along with any posts that speak of the balance between career and life.  Just to let you know, this is not just for parenting issues, but for anything about family (siblings, grandparents, family lessons, marriage, etc.).  It is not a fan club for the 80's sitcom, although I did like the show when I was a kid.

I started talking to Adam about this group a number of weeks ago, since he and I have written a BUNCH of posts that relate to our kids and families, but there wasn't a great place to put these words of wisdom.

One thing I realized was that naming a group is not as easy as you might think.  I think this name should serve our purposes well, and it seemed memorable.  I won't go into great detail about some of the other names that were considered, but this one struck me as the right title.  Also, I just always liked the theme song for the sitcom when I was a kid, even though it is a little cheesy now.  By the way, on a (somewhat) related note, did you know that Alan Thicke (dad from "Growing Pains") wrote the theme songs for "Diff'rent Strokes" and "The Facts of Life"?  He is also the father of singer Robin Thicke.  But I digress...

I was highly excited to see that we already managed to gain 24 members before I was able to write my own post about the group.  This is a brilliant testimony to the community aspect of AR, and to the group of friends that I have made in my time here so far.  I hope that the group will continue to grow and to thrive.  I am looking forward to the possibliities.  This initial wave of members came from a few well-placed invitations, and from my exceptionally gracious friends:

I wanted to thank Adam for promoting this group in his "Sunday Bloggy Sunday" column yesterday.  I also want to thank Candace Robinson for her enthusiastic post , and Alex Harb for featuring Candace's post about "Family Ties" in the Christianity group.

Wow - I feel like I won an Oscar!  If anyone else has written a post about this, please feel free to put a link in the comments below.  If you want to write one, please feel free.  The only way that AR groups grow is by word of mouth (or word of keyboard?).  I look forward to seeing you in "Family Ties".  Thanks for your time - come join and start posting when you have a chance!  I moved all of my related previous posts to the group.  If you want to move any previous posts to this group, please feel free.  I would love to see them.

Thanks for reading - see you soon!
